KRILL OIL
A Superior Source for Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Assuming that you are aware of the importance of Omega 3 Fatty Acids, I'm going to introduce you to a superior source which has recently come to my attention.

Krill are small shrimp that feed the world's most massive animals, the whales, which consume up to 8,000 pounds daily.   Because of their lower place on the food chain, they are much less likely to be contaminated than larger fish which are used for making fish oil capsules.

Krill oil is much more potent and has a higher antioxidant capacity than regular fish oil.  This allows you to take a smaller daily dose and obtain better results.   In addition to the all-important Omega-3 fatty acids (esp. EPA and DHA), it also contains protective phospholipids and antioxidants.  The phospholipids  are liposomes which deliver the essential fatty acids directly to your body's cells.  Standard fish oils lack this phospholipid carrier system, so require much larger doses to be effective.   In fact, it is estimated that one can take 1/5 the dose to receive the equivalent amounts of fish oil.  But there are many additional benefits:
  • One of the most important and dominant phospholipids in krill oil is phosphatidyl choline, which may play an important role in brain development and health.
  • Krill oil is more stable than conventional fish oils and does not require refrigeration to stay fresh.
  • No aftertaste, reflux or belching.
  • It contains carotenoids which help protect the eyes.
  • It has an ORAC value of 378, compared to fish oil's level of 8, and has 300 times the antioxidant power of vitamin A and vitamin E, and 34 times that of coenzyme Q-10.
  • Studies show that krill oil is more effective than fish oil for cholesterol and triglyceride support.
  • A 2003 study showed it's more effective than fish oil for physical and emotional symptoms of PMS.
  • Another study showed 300mg of krill  for 30 days reduced CRP by 30.9%, an important factor for reducing join and vascular inflammation.
  • A quality of life study demonstrated that krill oil produced better results than fish oil on a number of different measures:   physical function, energy levels, social function, emotional role, mental capacity, general health and physical appearance.
Obviously, krill oil is a superior product in every way to fish oil.  But what brand should you take?  After much investigation, I believe that I have found the most potent, and most cost effective for a two-a-day dose of pure krill oil on the market.   Various brands can be found in your local healthfood stores, but most name brands do not have the potency of Source Naturals, which provides 30% total Omega 3 fatty acids, and 24% EPA and DHA, the two most important fatty acids, plus 400mg of phospholipids from pure Neptune Krill Oil.

While other brands may still be superior to fish oil, Source Naturals is pure, unadulterated and the only one I recommend to my patients and take myself.
