1.   Calcium and Vitamin D3 were shown in many studies to inhibit human colon and breast cancer, soft tissue sarcoma, and malignant melanoma cell lines by enhancing cancer cell apoptosis, or cell suicide.  A 2007 study showed a 60-77% reduction in all-cancer risk in over 1000 postmenopausal women. (This result probably would carry over to the general population, as well). Ludde, et al. Am J Clin Nutr. 2007 Jun;85(6):1586-91  Int J Oncol 1999 May;14(5):979-85   Garland CF, et al. Ann N Y Acad Sci 1999;889:107-19

2.  High intake of magnesium was associated with 34% lower risk of colon cancer and 55% lower risk of rectal cancer in a large 15 year study.  Higher intake of calcium and magnesium were related to significantly lower breast cancer death rates.  Larrson SC et al. JAMA. 2005 Jan 5;293(1):86-9   Yang, et al. J Toxicol Environ Health A. 2000 Jun;60(4):231-41

3.  Grape seed extract (aka proanthocyanidins, OPC's) inhibits human prostate cancer cell growth and induces cancer cell death both in culture and in vivo, while at the same time enhancing the growth of normal cells examined.  It also strongly inhibits VEGF, a major factor related to tumor growth.  Agarwal, et al.  Carcinogenesis. 2002 Nov;23(11):1869-76   Ye X, et al. Mol Cell Biochem 1999 Jun;196(1-2):99-108   Singh, RP, et al. Int J Cancer. 2004 Feb 20;108(5):733-40

4.  A recent review of all pertinent studies show that the high ORAC berries cranberry and blueberry have the potential ability to limit the development and severity of certain cancers and vascular diseases including atherosclerosis, ischemic stroke, and neurodegenerative diseases of aging.   Neto, CC. Mol Nutr Food Res. 2007 Jun;51(6):652-64

5.
High doses (390mg/day) of CoQ10 were effective in completely eliminating tumors in five breast cancer patients, some of whom had metastasis to other organs.  Another study showed CoQ10, vitamin E, vitamin C, beta carotene and selenium in addition to their medical treatment  was 100% effective in stopping metastasis in breast cancer patients and 18% had apparent partial remission.  Lockwood, et al. Biochem Biophys Res Commun 1995 Jul 6;212(1):172-7  Lockwood, K., et al. Mol Aspects Med. 1994;15 Suppl:s231-40

DIETARY/LIFESTYLE STUDIES

9.  Risk of bladder cancer in smokers would be reduced by 70% by stopping smoking (and nonsmokers by 50%) along with increasing fluid intake.  Altwein JE, Urologe A. 2007 Jun;46(6):616-621

10.  Premenopausal women with a positive family history of breast cancer were 71% less likely to develop it when they consumed five servings of fruits and vegetables daily including specific carotenoids including alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, lutein/zeaxanthin, total vitamin C, and total vitamin A.  J Natl Cancer Inst 1999 Mar 17;91(6):547-56

Editor's Note

Will the nutrients above rid patients of cancer?  We make no claims, but only provide the studies for you to read and share with your physician.  There is evidence that as simple a regimen as just taking calcium and vitamin D3 daily along with a quality multivitamin, to more drastic moves such as improving one's lifestyle and adding several other nutrients, including OPC's, Coenzyme Q10 and others, may have great promise in helping the body prevent most cancers or even eliminating existing cancer altogether, with few or no side effects.   There is no magic cure for cancer, despite what some purveyors of nutritional supplements say.  Cancer has many causes and treatments (medical and nutritional) can increase longevity and improve quality of life, but no treatment is 100%.    That being said, we sincerely believe that our body's own immune system was Master Designed to cure virtually every disease known to man, if we just give it the raw materials it needs and stop abusing it with toxins and poor lifestyle choices!

While these supplements can be purchased in many locations, it can be overwhelming to search for nutrients in a healthfood store, where you may receive too low a dose, or poorly absorbed forms of the nutrients.  After much investigation, we believe that taking supplements that are the same osmolarity of human tissues and fluids is best to maximize absorption.  The term for this property is "isotonic."  When taken on an empty stomach, 10-20 minutes before a meal, absorption approaches 85-95%, compared to pills which average 10-20%.   This should result in much better efficacy than pills at a lower dose, especially important  for those who do not have a youthful digestive system.

For your convenience, we have included links below to the only company of which we're aware that has a line of isotonic capable nutritional supplements.  (To receive an email containing these links, send a blank email to doc @ i-care.net with "Please Send Links" in the Subject area.)
